What is Renaissance?

Renaissance is a global hackathon designed to connect, collaborate, and challenge individuals and teams passionate about Web3 for a chance to win pre-seed funding and prizes worth up to $1 million. Renaissance is the first hackathon hosted on the Colosseum platform.

Six main themes are included in this hackathon, according to the Solana Foundation: “DeFi & Payments,” “Consumer Apps,” “DePIN,” “Gaming,” “DAOs & Startup Communities,” and “Infrastructure.”

According to the press announcement, Colosseum allows users to create their builder profiles, network with possible teammates, generate ideas, investigate the competition tracks, and compete for a portion of the $1 million prize pool and pre-seed investment.

The Grand Champion Award, given out by Symmetry, comes with three passes to the Solana Foundation’s annual conference Breakpoint 2024 and a $50,000 USDC cash award.

The best projects in each of the six hackathon tracks—Consumer Apps, DeFi & Payments, DePIN, Gaming, Infrastructure, and DAOs & Startup Communities—will get one of five prizes, from $5,000 to $30,000 USDC.

In addition to these accolades relevant to each track, three more prizes will be given out:

  • The University Award: The best undergraduate team will receive a $10,000 USDC reward.
  • The Public Goods Award : A $10,000 USDC reward will be given to the group developing open-source software that has the biggest positive impact on the Solana ecosystem as a whole.
  • The Climate Award: A $5,000 USDC reward given to the initiative that proposes the greatest significant environmentally and climate-friendly fix.

All winning teams will have the opportunity to apply for Colosseum’s Accelerator Program, which provides a chance to obtain $250,000 in pre-seed funding to advance their ideas.

Solana Foundation’s executive director, Dan Albert, stressed the significance of the hackathons in promoting the expansion of the Solana network.

“Hackathons play a critical role in continued growth on the Solana network by fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration,”

“These events empower builders to create meaningful solutions that will revolutionize industries, solve real-world problems, and develop practical applications that are only possible on Solana.”

Colosseum cofounder Matty Taylor stated that he is excited to host the upcoming hackathon for the Solana Foundation.

“We are thrilled to administer the next Solana Foundation hackathon on Colosseum,” said Taylor.

“Following the success of Hyperdrive, there has been a lot of momentum among the Solana builder community. We are glad to be able to support them in the most critical steps of their journeys. We look forward to working alongside the Solana Foundation and many others in the Solana ecosystem to continue fostering experimentation, startup innovation, and real-world problem-solving.”
